Sri Lankan former president Chandrika Kumaratunga meets Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday. Kumaratunga arrived Dhaka to attend a programme of London-based Global Leadership Foundation on May 21.
During the meeting, PM Hasina, the daughter of Bangladesh’s founding father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman told Kumaratunga that people of all faiths are living peacefully in Bangladesh and that they take part in every festival together. She told the former Sri Lankan president that her administration successfully resolved the ethnic problem in the Chittagong Hill Tracts without intervention of any third party. International Affairs Adviser to the PM Gowher Rizvi was also present during the meeting.
After the meeting on Wednesday, Press Secretary to the PM Ihsanul Karim said they discussed various matters relating to mutual interests and different aspects of their political parties. Kumaratunga, the former chairman of Sri Lankan Freedom Party, has served as the South Asian country’s president from 1994 to 2005.
